[KOTA BAHRU] Laksam and Nasi Kerabu Kelantan

Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah is getting touristsy with prices higher than average wet markets in Kota Bahru. Nonetheless it is still the largest there.

I head there to get my Nise Kerek (a type of Kelantanese gula melaka), my fill of laksam (Kelantan laksa) and Nasi Kerabu. The sellers are usually cordial.

The stalls I frequent are conveniently located side by side on the 4th floor of the market. For the laksam seller, she even sells prepacked laksam noodles for you to take home to cook your laksam.

Laksam is a coconut broth fish based laksa from Kelantan. Nasi Kerabu there is the type with ample protein choices, herbal salad, and budu.

For the non-Malaysians, TL:DR, almost every state in Malaysia has it's own unique laksa. Gosh, the amount of comments have been getting whenever I have laksam parties in Singapore - "it doesn't taste like Singapore laksa?" 🤦‍♀️ I need to keep my inner voice to myself.

There are even better ones but it's a hassle to get there if I'm not driving in Kota Bahru.

Caveat: You have to speak in Kalate or minimally in Malay. English is not the preferred mode of communication.
