Hello Lemon8!🍋 I stayed in BKK for 3 months for an internship and YOU JUST KNOW I had to live out that digital nomad life😎👩💻 (im sorry i just cringed saying that), but I went to many cafes during that period, and here are some of the recommendations that I have if you’re taking a trip there soon!
1⃣ Mediums Sukhumvit 42: Concept-Store and Cafe at Ekkamai 🎨
Huge + is that it’s super near the BTS station🚆, most of the good cafes in BKK i feel are a bit out of the way, but this one isn’t!
- Sells art supplies which are reasonably priced🎨
- There are also workshops you can sign up for (held on the second floor) that range from 1000 to 1290 THB which is about (SGD $40 to $60)
- Overall the space is really big! The back of the first floor (behind the art supplies) is Vel/a Cafe. It is aesthetic, both the interior space and the beverages. You can even get a basque cheesecake to paint on (which is so on theme with the rest of the store, I really love it)
2⃣ A KEEN HOUSE: Coffee and Breakfast place at Ekkamai🍳🌷
- Aesthetic Cafe good for taking pictures
- Has 2 floors but the second floor is just to display art and has a toilet, not for dining in
- Coffee was good, I ordered the Burnt Caramel Latte and it was good but it gets a bit jelak at the end when the caramel has fully dissolved into the coffee
- The Lemon tea is very sour - Wouldn't recommend🥴
- The breakfast is quite mid, we got the sourdough, scrambled eggs and bacon toast — it wasn't SUPER good, and it was quite pricey
- Overall a really cozy place
- About 7 minutes away from Ekkamai station so it's a bit of a walk
3⃣ Library Cafe: 📚🪴
- As the name suggests, this is a cafe that feels like a library or a Japanese-themed bookshop and it was relatively conducive to work in!
- It’s quiet on weekday mornings, but it starts getting crowded at noon
- There are no plugs (but free wifi!), so if that’s something you need then it’s good to take it into consideration
- Good Coffee! But I would avoid the matcha because it does taste a little artificial, but it’s NOT BAD
- The waffles were something I saw many people getting so we ordered it too, but I would say it’s quite ordinary, and it tastes a bit like pandan waffles
- The seats were also comfortable and I would probably head back there again!
- 8-10 minute walk from the BTS station so it is a little bit out of the way, but not an issue if you grab bike your way there😉
4⃣ CHAEN TEA Experience 🍵🍃
- This was definitely a little hard to find, but SO WORTH IT! About a 10 minute walk from the BTS station
- The matcha was really good, if you like Hvala, I’m pretty sure you’ll appreciate what this tea house has to offer!
- It’s also pretty quiet, even on weekends and they offer seating on the first and second floor, as well as outdoors.
- I sat upstairs and you had to take off your shoes and sit on the tatami mats - but they offered cushions that you could sit comfortably on
- The matcha was really good and rich and I REALLY enjoyed it
5⃣ Home Work🔖🛋
- This was another cafe that had an ambience I really enjoyed just soaking in and I like the fact that it’s a standalone building so it was very spacious with many seats
- It’s out of the way. for sure. I don’t think you should walk from the BTS, so do a little planning on your route if you’re planning to visit this cafe!
- Apart from that, they sell a wide variety of food and beverages and I was so surprised by the coffee it was SO GOOD HAHAHA like it had a strong taste but it was creamy at the same time🤤
- The pasta was also tasty, and they also served free bread with butter
- Overall I spent about 590 THB, which is about $24 so it’s like the standard cafe price
