Mammoth Lakes - Hot Creek Geologic Site

Hot Creek Geologic Site in Mammoth Lakes is a fascinating area known for its unique geological features and natural hot springs. I’ve been there twice and even want to see this unique location again!

Hot Creek is a geothermal area situated along the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains, US-395.

There are no designated hiking trails within the Hot Creek Geologic Site. However, you can explore the area on paved roads along the creek and around the hot springs. It’s very easy, but sometimes paths are steep.

The Hot Creek Geologic Site has limited amenities due to its undeveloped nature. There are several parking areas (free) with restrooms and a couple of picnic tables.

It is accessible throughout the year, but the best time to visit is during spring, summer, or fall. Winter visits are possible, but icy conditions and snow may make access more challenging.

Please be careful and stay on paths and designated viewing areas to ensure personal safety! Be cautious of steam vents, which can emit high temperatures and hazardous gases.
