tips to find apartments on working holiday visa 🇦🇺

with a rental crisis happening across australia right now, here are some of my best tips to secure that rental apartment on a working holiday visa!

1) show ample savings

working holiday visas might be seen as "flaky" but at the end of the day, money talks.

landlords care more about you paying rent on time than what you're doing in melbourne.

2) show your payslip or financials

if you have a job or even just an offer, it'll greatly help you application.

otherwise, when i first arrived in melbourne, other than my savings i also showed my investment accounts, my rental history in singapore (and how i always paid on time), and my credit score.

3) ALWAYS submit your application RIGHT AFTER the inspection

i cannot stress this enough! property agents will look at the oldest submissions first, and will stop once they find a good candidate

i 100% believe being the first few applications helped us secured offers. the only apartment we didn't get an offer for was one that we sent in our application only at night

4) fill up your application beforehand

prepare ALL the files you need to upload, and fill up applications before the inspection. this is so that you can be the first few to submit the rental application

5) write a cover letter

or at least, that's what i heard from everyone. i used chatgpt to write mine but i can't verify whether having a cover letter helps our application or not
