Only 2 hours away from Tokyo, Nikko is known as one of the best places in Japan for cherry blossom and autumn leaves viewing. I was greeted by a gorgeous sea of red and unforgettable sceneries during my trip in October 🍂
Sharing my itinerary here so you can enjoy Nikko as well!
🍁 DAY 1
- Collect Nikko Travel Pass at Asakusa (Tokyo)
- Tain to Tobu Nikko station
- Akechidaira Ropeway
- Lake Chuzenji Sightseeing Cruise
- Kegon Falls
🏞️ DAY 2
- Shinkyo Bridge
- Ryuzu Falls
- Lake Chuzenji lakeside walking trail
- Train back to Tokyo
🛏️ HOSTEL
📍: Nikko Park Lodge Tobu Station
Address: Japan, 〒321-1406 Tochigi, Nikko, Matsubaracho, 11−6
💫 TIPS:
✧ Although Nikko is also known for their magnificent shrines, I skipped them because I was more interested in nature. If you'd like to add uone to your itinerary, Toshogu Shrine is the most iconic shrine in Nikko.
✧ Nikko can be a day-trip from Tokyo as well! I split it into two days as I wanted to enjoy the city at a slower pace
✧ Foreigners can buy the Nikko pass, which allows you to board certain public transport without additional fees.
✧ It'll be a lot easier to travel around Nikko with a car. Public transport is entirely possible albeit inconvenient (buses can take up to an hour to arrive)
✧ Queues for Akechidaira Ropeway can get long so do set aside more time for that activity — I waited over an hour to get on my cable car
Do you have other hidden gems or short getaways from Tokyo that you can share?
