Yes, aircon weather in Malaysia! 😍

Sharing about my fun and chill trip to Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia with friends last February.

(Photos not in any particular order)

Flight: Singapore to Kota Kinabalu (~2.5 hours)

Photo # 2

We rented a 10-seater Hyundai Starex to fit 8 of us + our bags & luggages. We didn’t hire a driver so we drove the car up from Kota Kinabalu to Kundasang ourselves. I think it was maybe about a 1.5 to 2 hour car drive up. Honestly, as a passenger, the drive up was quite scary cause the roads were narrow and steep. It was also quite cloudy and it drizzled a bit so every time I woke up from my nap and look out the window, it’s just foggy and you can barely see the road. So, if you’re not very confident to drive, just hire a driver! But being able to drive around by ourselves was really fun; the boys even drove around further to explore the more secluded areas.

Alpaca farm

I’ve always wanted to see Alpacas in real life and there’s none in Singapore so I was really excited for this one. It was nothing too exciting like those I’ve seen where people went to the alpaca place in Korea, but it was a nice small farm with several alpacas. We had 15 minutes to spend with them, to feed and take photos. Just really happy for this one cause I think alpacas are the cutest!!

Desa Cattle Dairy Farm

It’s a huuuuugeee place with cows (obvi! haha) Unfortunately, a section was closed when we went but it’s alright cause we still got to see and touch some of the cows. Also, there were maaany people there. We had froyo(or was it ice cream) made of the cows’ milk, and they tasted fresh and so good!

There was a pasar malam style market which had snacks and other items (whatever you’d expect of a pasar malam basically). Everything was affordable and good. However, the boys did have a tummy ache that night, and we’re guessing it was from the chicken cutlet that we got from there. We gals had no issue though cause we didn’t eat the chicken cutlet 🤭

Views from the market!! (You don’t get this kinda view at Woodlands pasar malam 🥲😅)

Finally! Our Airbnb! (~$330/night)

(Stole the photo from the Airbnb page haha I didn’t have a proper, nice photo)

It was truly the highlight of our trip. We initially wanted to stay at a place that we saw on TikTok but it was fully booked. In fact, many hot stays were either all sold out or just couldn’t fit our no. of pax. Then we stumbled upon this place on Airbnb and we’re sooo glad. Initially we were a bit scared? Cause it seemed like it was near a forest and we thought it’d be kinda creepy 👻 at night. But it really wasn’t. The place was perfect.

There were 4 bedrooms - perfect for us 4 couples. In the main building, there were 2 bedrooms attached to the living and dining area. Then at a separate portion of the house (had to just walk down a tiny hill from the parking area) were the 2 other rooms. Had to ballot for the rooms cause most of us wanted the rooms that were in the main building 😂

We had a nice home cooked dinner on our first night and we also used the fireplace when it was nice and chilly at night and just hung around chatting with one another.

There was also a house caretaker who lived within the same compound, just in a separate building so it was really easy when we needed anything we could just WhatsApp him, like for extra toothbrushes or even extra wood for the fireplace.

Overall, if you’re looking for a chill trip with friends/family with aircon weather (14-17 degrees), Kundasang is definitely one I’d recommend! It’s unique and quiet, with BEAUTIFUL views yet not tooooo far from SG, so flight’s still pretty affordable. Enjoy! :)
