Ever nailed an amazing OOTD shot just to realise there were people walking in the background, unsightly lines, or random objects ruining your photo? Ugh, me too!

I'm here to spill the tea on how you can avoid this and level up your insta game!!

1. Retouch ($5.98) ๐Ÿ‘

This is my top pick. This app has an upfront cost but no in-app purchases or ads, which I really appreciate. It is the easiest to use out of all the 3 options, with smarter detection than Snapseed/ Lightroom's healing tools.

They have handy features like differentiating between objects, lines, and even meshes (auto-detection) like chain link fences which are notoriously hard to edit out.

The one-off price is worth it if you are someone who likes to take pics. It's cheaper than Lightroom's monthly subscription too! There's nothing I dislike more than subscription models :(

๐Ÿ’ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐๐ข๐œ๐ญ: Most beginner friendly and my top pick for anyone from casual to professional users. One-off price is worth it.

2. Snapseed (free!)

This is the cheapest option, but also the most imprecise. Be prepared to spend a fair bit of time swiping, erasing, and going over small chunks carefully because the heal tool is not very precise. You can start out with Snapseed first before taking the plunge to purchase Retouch, if youโ€™re unsure. If you have mastered the heal tool in Snapseed, you definitely can use Retouch. The AI detection is way more powerful.

๐Ÿ’ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐๐ข๐œ๐ญ: Requires a little more wrangling, but itโ€™s free! Go over the objects in smaller sections if you use this.

3. Lightroom ($7.48/month)

The base app is free, and has quite powerful editing/ colour tools and applying presets is easy. However, to get the sort of object removal you would like, you have to pay their monthly/ yearly subscription fee.

$5.75/ month if you subscribe for a year

$7.48/ month for a single month

One thing that makes Lightroom's heal tool so powerfulโ€” the capability to select areas you would like to "heal" over and duplicate. You can select another part of the photo and drag it over, which is something Retouch doesn't do.

It is the priciest option, but if you are someone who would like to delve into photography a little more, the yearly subscription is great for extra lighting and editing tools.

I subscribe every now and then when I need more powerful lighting/healing edits, but Retouch pretty much serves my needs for most of my photos.

๐Ÿ’ฅ ๐•๐ž๐ซ๐๐ข๐œ๐ญ: More for someone who edits a lot of photos and requires more precise tools for lighting and editing. If you only need the โ€œhealโ€ function, I recommend getting Retouch instead.
