BEST Supper Spot for Westies 😋 | closes 2am

Yes, I’m back with another late-night supper recommendation 😋 Recently, I had my supper at BBQ Box (Bukit Timah) AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! 💗 If you’re a fan of Chinese skewers (Chuan Chuan) then you MUST TRY here.

In case you’re unsure of what Chinese skewers are, they originated from mainland China and are typically consumed at street-side stalls (explains the exterior of the restaurant). Common ingredients include mutton, beef and pork, which are liberally spiced with cumin and barbecued 🍢

Here’s what we ordered:

1️⃣ Grilled Oyster Mushrooms ($1.60/stick)

YOU MUST ORDER THIS!! This is my favourite. It’s rich in flavour and I love it 😙

2️⃣ Grilled Beef Skewer ($4.40 for 3 skewers)

I’ve always been a fan of beef skewers and BBQ Box did not disappoint me. The skewers were delicious 😋

3️⃣ Grilled Mutton Skewer ($1.50/stick)

I don’t usually eat mutton but this was not bad. It doesn’t have a strong lamb taste. Instead, the cumin flavour was strong which made the mutton skewer tasty 💯

4️⃣ Grilled King Oyster Mushroom ($1.60/stick)

I regretted ordering this *cries*. It wasn’t worth my money. $1.60 for 2 small slices of king oyster mushroom? This was a no-go for me. Taste-wise… still okay but once again, not worth the money 😕

Rating: 4/10

5️⃣ Grilled Chicken Meat ($3.80 for 3 skewers)

DON’T ORDER THIS!! I don’t like the texture of the chicken. I expected it to be tender but the chicken meat was dry 💀

Rating: 1/10

6️⃣ Grilled Chicken Gizzard ($1.50/stick)

I don’t know how to eat this but my friend likes it. I tried eating it and the taste was nice. So if you eat chicken gizzard, you may want to try this :)

7️⃣ Hot & Sour Rice Noodles ($7.80)

The noodles were super chewy and thick so it was hard for me to chew and swallow 😅 I like this dish though. It tasted good and it made my lips slightly numb. I like how generous they were with the bean sprouts hehe. But to be honest, Hai Di Lao’s nicer 👀

Overall, BBQ Box was such a vibey supper spot to visit for some charred and exhilarating Chinese skewers. If you are dining in, the skewers are served hot on the BBQ pan. Besides skewers, they serve many other dishes as well such as cold dishes, grilled seafood, dumplings, alcoholic drinks and more.

They have many branches located around Singapore — Bugis, Geylang, Chinatown etc. — but the one I visited is located along the streets outside Beauty World MRT Exit B. The perfect supper spot for my fellow Westies 🫶🏻 ~
