Heap Seng Leong has been around since the 1970s, serving legit Nanyang kopi and charcoal-grilled toast. Their Kopi Gu You ($1.30) is a popular old-school beverage comprising a hot cup of kopi topped with a cold slab butter for richness. We recommend the Kopi O ($1), which boasted a remarkably smooth and well-balanced taste.

𝟒. 𝐖𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐮𝐢

Wan Gui is frequented by the Eatbook team as it’s situated in Bendemeer Food Centre, which is a short walk from our office. Their traditional kopi is cheap and strong, with the Kopi O priced at just $1 a cup. The Kopi C Siew Dai ($1.20) was sweeter than expected, but it’s super fragrant and full-bodied. Make sure you request for siew siew dai if you don’t have a sweet tooth.

𝟑. 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞

Every cup of kopi at Generation Coffee is prepared with the team’s trusty espresso machine, resulting in a unique flavour and mouthfeel. Our Kopi O ($1.30) came with a beautiful layer of crema—a mark of a well-extracted espresso shot. The Kopi C Siew Dai ($1.60) was also delicious, with the perfect dose of milk to bring out the robust notes of the espresso.

Y Kafei Dian is another favourite in the kopi and kaya toast scene. If there’s one word to describe the kopi here, it’s ‘consistent’. Their Kopi C Siew Dai ($1.70) was strong enough, yet not too sweet. The Kopi Bing ($1.90) was another favourite of ours, as it boasted caramelly notes with just the right amount of ice.
