After being rejected from local full time universities, I applied for private universities. There was only a gap of 4 months from my poly grad till I started my first year of university and working after getting my diploma was the last on my list.

Here are my thoughts/experience after a year of graduating from private university:

1️⃣ Cost/Financing: Private universities have higher school fees than local universities therefore ensure you have sufficient amount set aside to fund for ur studies.

• Average fees per month: $5K

2️⃣ Enrollment: Enrolling to a private university is so so so much easier than enrolling and getting a place in local universities. There are less likely to have interviews and will enroll you in.

3️⃣ Dual certification: Private universities are normally partnered with an overseas university/country thus having qualifications that is recognised and be used in 2 different countries is like killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

4️⃣ Keeps the momentum: Studying after poly ensures you still have the momentum and having a 'fresh' mind to go through another 2-3 years of studying.

5️⃣ Flexibility: Private universities are majority part time so if you would want to work full time or part time is completely up to you and your comfort level as you would have to juggle assignments and attending classes in the evening.

6️⃣ Mature students: Being the youngest in class and being surrounded with classmates who are slightly older than you by 10-20 years can be beneficial as they have experience and knowledge which you can learn from and apply it in worklife. I learn a lot from my mature friends and am very thankful for their guidance throughout uni life.

I am an advocate for upgrading yourselves so if you ever have thoughts about enrolling into private universities or universities, go for it!!
