⚠️ Disturbing subject matter, would not recommend to those under 18 ⚠️

This book has been floating around booktok for some time now and it has a notorious reputation for being exceptionally heartbreaking. I’ve read it. It’s true. Let’s talk about how this book broke me to pieces

🔖 Context: The story follows a young man named Jude and his college friends, Williem, Malcom and JB. The group lives on Lispenard Street, in New York. A diverse group with unique dynamics, the story takes us through their lives while slowly uncovering their pasts, most notably, Jude’s.

☁️ My thoughts: The story starts seemingly innocent and feels like a turning-of-age story about a group of college students. But it becomes clear pretty quickly that it’s more than that. The author spared no effort in fleshing out dark subject matter, delving into the gritty details and forcing readers to confront it head-on. The story is also a refreshing take on modern day friendships.

My favourite quote: “And so I try to be kind to everything I see, and in everything I see, I see him.”

Definitely a good read. Highly recommend!
