🇲🇾6 years to read law ?? The process?

As a law grad myself , let me share with you how long it takes for me to officially called myself a lawyer…. It took me 6 years! Long enough right! HAHHA So what must a law grad go through in order to qualify him/ herself as a lawyer or an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia ?

PRE - U

Alevels // Foundation in Law // STPM (1-1.5 years)

I did alevels and it was tough !

Degree [Bachelor of Laws] LLB (3 years)

UKT or UOL

UKT is the UK transfer with 70% examination and 30% assignment based for you to work on whereas UOL is 3 years based in Malaysia and 100% examination based.

I did the UKT ( 2 yrs in Malaysia and 1 year in UK) )

Post Degree (1 year )

BPTC Bar Professional Training Course OR

CLP Certified in Legal Practice

I did CLP - 1 year 100% examination based in Malaysia. If you have relatives / friends who did CLP, you would know how tough is this examination with only a 15-20% students passed each year !

Pupillage ( 9 months )

Where you finished your education and work as a pupil closely with a master who will be guiding you throughout these 9 months!

Thankfully I managed to complete my education and was called to the bar on 20.1.2023. Long journey , lots of blood sweat and tears but I guess its worth it ? HAHAH Took one 6 years to officially called him/herself a lawyer. 😌
