i would go home ASAP in yr 1...what changed?

My entire first year of uni was quite miserable tbh in every single way and one that included my stay in hall....

Transitioning into local uni after I was still recovering from IB burn out was very rough for me because I'm someone who doesn't settle into a new environment very well! I also need to usually feel in control but the fact that I was entering a whole new campus knowing no one, completely lost, trying to get used to my course and having a culture shock was just BADDD!!!!

So needless to say my living adjustment situation was also just so bad...it wasn't because my hall was lousy..no like in fact it was so nice and clean and quiet the way I like it but I felt just so out of place for the entire year that living in my hall just became miserable and I would try to go home as FAST as i could to somewhere familiar 💀

However I literally love staying in my hall now in my entire year 2 LOLLLL so what changed?

Ok first of all my room I chose is the same type as my last one: single aircon communal toilet BUT the layout of my current room is slightly wider AND my room actually has free aircon due to my spoilt aircon reader so it just became shiok af

But also I made efforts coming into year 2 to invest in making my living situation more comfortable because I was aware that what I needed was to get comfy and make this MY personal space to unwind and feel at home! So I did that by:

- buying a mattress topper. MADE my life improve 100%. My first night in year 2 already was SO good

- Making my study desk more elaborate in 2nd sem. Yes yes yes this made me much more comfortable studying

- Buying a mini bar fridge since the start of year 2 to let myself stock up on snacks and packet drinks...so much better!!!

So I hope this helps for anyone out there that's suffering just like I did...things get better and of course it's needless to say that most of all I just needed time (in my case a full year) to mentally settle down and find joy in living alone!!
