Hello!

We're back with the 2nd part of our DIY Vinyl Door. Following is the list of tools, supplies, and cost for this DIY.

1) Vinyl Sticker

The amount we bought for per door is by calculating the length of the door x 3 times. This includes both sides of the door and the frame. That was way more than we needed per door.

The seller sells the vinyl sticker in 1.2m x 0.8m per unit. So you'd just need to calculate the length accordingly.

We chose LG Hausys Series, colour code EW609

Unintentionally, Jo chose a colour with more grains. She didn't realize then, but we discovered the more textured and more grains your sticker is, the less noticeable air bubbles appear! But it was quite easy to get rid of the air bubbles (see our previous post!).. so no worries about that!

So, the cost, we bought more than we needed because we wanted to factor in mistakes, in case we made it... following our loosely based calculation, it would be roughly $135 for both doors, not inclusive of shipping. We shipped them with many other items through sea shipping, so our shipping and gst was roughly $15 or so.

2) Vinyl Squeegee

You'll need this to smooth over your sticker. We bought it on shopee and cost us $3.30 per squeegee. You can also diy one using an old bank or cc card and double side tape some felt cloth over it.

3) Heat Gun/ Hair Dryer

You'd need this for the edges. The heat melts the glue and softens the vinyl so it adheres to the edges better and gives you a sharper edge. We didn't have a heat gun, so we used the hair dryer we had. Do note it gets hot! Would be good to put on gloves so you wouldn't burn yourself.

4) Pen Knife

This is to help create fine cuts to get rid of the bubbles. Always do the cut diagonally, so when you smooth down, you do not accidentally create holes and bend the vinyl.

5) Measuring Tape.

To measure the length and width of your door to determine how much sticker you'd need. There is a guided measurement behind the sticker with lines for you to cut along. It does make it a lot easier.

6) Paintable Caulk and Caulking Gun

If you are doing the door frame and your frame is uneven at the edges like ours, you'd need this. The caulk covers the uneven vinyl edges and gives the illusion of a very straight edge. Do check out our previous post for the step by step.
