This post is dedicated to new pet owners! Here to share my story on how my puppy nearly died after an infection from eating food that was toxic to dogs. I bought Oreo when she was 3 months old.

Shortly after bringing Oreo home, just 2 weeks in and at about 3 months old, I woke up one day to tons of sh*t on the floor, hers and there was blood like in all of them. I panicked but kept calm and tried to google what was wrong with her but decided to monitor her for awhile more. But by that night, she looked worse and wasn’t even eating at all. Wanted to bring her to the vet but it was late and no vets were open. Hospital was super ex so decided to wait till the next day. She wasn’t eating her breakfast as well as decided to rush her to the vet.

Googled reviews for vets etc and decided to bring her to My Family Vet at Bukit Batok.

They told me that it was best to do a series of tests since she was very young and when the tests came out I had a shock. Doctor said she was anemic due to loss of blood (I think all through her poo?) and if we had brought her a lil later she wouldn’t had made it. I was so angry at myself for delaying to bring her to the vet thinking it was nothing and she would recover herself. It turned out to be an infection due to something she ate that was thankfully treatable. We actually think it was my kid’s hamster food. Because we found the whole bowl of hamster nuts and seeds gone when we came home to check what exactly she ate that caused this (I think my kids forgot to close the cage door properly and Oreo managed to have access to the food). Dr. prescribed medication and provided clear instructions on how to care for her at home. Kudos to Dr Vanessa Lin, she insisted we do the tests as she felt something was very wrong with Oreo. The bill was damn ex but at least Oreo was fine😂

Within about a week, Oreo was back to being her happy, bouncy self. 🐶

This experience taught me the importance of not leaving things that are toxic to dogs at places where she can reach (I guess she was young and ignorant). Now she clever already won’t anyhow eat these things hahaha.

To all the new pet owners out there, be prepared for unexpected health issues and have a reliable vet clinic you can turn to. Your furbaby’s health is worth every cent and every sleepless night!
