We did our own defects check! 📋

Finally got the keys to our BTO after waiting for 5 years! Excited to start on our reno journey but first things first, we gotta do the defects check!

To be honest, my husband and I are not very particular about the very minor details. He is in the contractor line himself so he understands that some things cannot be perfect. We also wanted to start renovating before the peak period (end of year till before CNY) so we decided to do the defects check ourselves!

Here are some of the important things we checked:

☑️ Signs of water leaking on walls

☑️ Clogging of drains

☑️ Toilet taps and flush

☑️ Cracked skirtings

☑️ Vinyl flooring

☑️ Stains on floor or wall tiles

☑️ Windows & handles

☑️ Main door and gate

☑️ Bedroom doors & locks

Examples of the minor things we were ok with:

- Paint stains on window grills/doors/skirting

- Minor cracks on walls

- Painting works

As all these can be rectified by the painters when we start painting works. We also didn’t check for hollow tiles even though we’re keeping all of the tiles in the bathrooms & kitchen, as we think it’s unnecessary.

We got our defects settled in about 2 weeks & started on electrical works first. We’re currently in the final phase of our reno journey & I can’t wait to see how everything looks! 🤩
