do yours wear shoes?

to be honest, when i used to see people who put shoes on their dogs i didn’t really get it. it looked uncomfortable and since dogs are ancestors of wolves, i always thought it was inorganic for them.

now that i have been a dog owner for years, i can tell you my perspective has changed. i don’t put shoes on my dog every time, but every pawrent should own a pair. here’s when i put them on for my dog:

- ☔️ rainy days: in nyc, it gets really grimy on the streets when it rains. shoes protect from little dirt particles from getting caught in between his paw pads. we wash them every time but you never know.

- 🚧 construction areas: i live by non stop construction. when i see there’s a construction site that’s breaking down foundations or working on street pavements, shoes come on. you never know what they might step on as they walk their way through construction.

- 🥵 extra hot days: dogs pads can burn too especially when the pavements have been heating from the sun. if it’s 90 degrees or hotter, i put them on for him. i’ll stand with him on the pavement and put my hand on the floor. if i can’t keep my hand on the ground for 10 seconds, i can’t expect my dog to walk for long. shoes help make sure he gets his walk without hurting him.
