Hi!!

I recently just graduated WVU majoring in Criminology and Psychology with a minor in Addiction Studies. I also managed to work 3 jobs! I decided to share what I did to focus throughout college.

1. Get a friend group that has ambitions and wants to better themselves!!! A HUGE factor in if you’ll “drop out” or if you’ll graduate. I’ve seen friend groups suck so many people into failure especially if you go to a “party school”.

2. Go to the library, trust me it’s not embarrassing. Everyone there is there for the same reason you are :) the library allowed me to really focus on homework and studying without at home distractions.

3. Put phone on focus mode during class or put it out of reach.

4. Sit front row!!! So many of my professors got to know me super well because I sat front row. This benefits you in the future when you need references for resumes or maybe the professor will be nice enough to help you out if they acknowledge you’re in class and paying attention everyday.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Professors are paid to answer them. Many other people probably have the same question and if you’re nervous to ask during lecture jot them down and approach the professor after class. (They like to know you were listening and actually want to learn more)

6. Set DEADLINES! To manage all my jobs and responsibilities I would set deadlines. Mondays and Tuesdays I would do nothing but assignments. I would push myself all day to get as much done as possible. Whatever I didn’t get done on those days I would get done before the weekend.

7. Make groupchats for classes. SOOOOO important to have classmates to discuss with.

8. Don’t buy books before classes start. Many of my classes did not require the textbook, just for me to be in class and listen.

9. My dorm freshman year did not have a kitchen however the school gave out free food on the weekend “drunk breakfast”. I always brought containers to fill to take back to my room to eat for breakfast so I didn’t have to worry.

10. To make friends (especially freshman year) join as many groupchats as possible and offer fun activities. Such as making cookies, movie night, crockpot dinners, board games, coffee dates etc. It’s not weird, someone is always looking to have a friend! :)))

hopefully these tips and ideas help :)
