hi girlies! today is another personal journey post 🕊️ as you all know from my weight loss post, I struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder as an result of an ice skating accident that happened when I was 12 years old.

I was very unhappy throughout my teenage years due to my injury. I struggled with my studies and I really wasn’t doing well in general even though everything was enough! I had a loving home and family but something in my brain wasn’t clicking right!

mental health in malaysia is very much still taboo but I would like to emphasize that if you are struggling mentally there is nothing wrong with you! your brain is just a little unhealthy and we need to make sure it’s healthy and happy!

when I turned 18, I promised myself I would get better and here are the things I learned throughout the years and how I finally was able to overcome by depression 🕊️

here are some tips on how I’m able to overcome my depression 🫶🏻

1. FIND THE RIGHT SUPPORT

🤍 finding the right group of people to support you is so so important. I’ve come across a lot of people who will be your friend but they’re just that, nothing deeper. when you need them to just listen, they’re not there! they’re only here for funsies. so I’ve come to appreciate a close and tight-knit group of people instead of having a large group of support 🤍 it can be anyone, from your sister to your aunt! find someone who listens.

2. Traveling & Exploring New Places ✨

I love traveling to new places and exploring new scenery whenever I can! even if it’s sometimes within the city. It’s so important to seek out new adventures, I think our brain secretly craves exploring new experiences. It really helped me be more open to just be outside and sometimes just bask in the nature or mingle around.

3. Read Motivational Books 🫶🏻

at first when I really wanted to heal and be happy, my first step was to find motivational books and lectures on youtube. I love reading life books like joan didion’s slouching towards bethlehem. one of my other fav self-help book is the mountain is you by brianna wiest! try and watch tedtalks on youtube regarding mental health too 🫶🏻 It helps tremendously to change your mindset ✨

4. Pick Up New Hobbies!

I discovered that as I grew older from teenagehood I was keen to pickup new hobbies eventhough I was afraid to try but if the concept of trying new things with healing is the same thing, if you don’t try you just don’t know the outcome! so always trust the process. it doesn’t matter if you fail at the hobby, the process will make you learn about yourself ✨

5. Having a pet! 🐈

I adopted a cat and caring for my cat was life-changing 😍 it made me feel more appreciated because they constantly depend on you and have a special relationship with you even though we can’t really communicate. It does feel like they understand you and just know when to comfort you by just being there for you and meowing 😂

these are just a few tips that help me become much more healthier mentally! don’t force yourself and take it easy. healing takes time but you will be better, you just have to believe it will be better 🤍
