I know I’m extra but honestly, having all of this during a 12 hour shift is worth it in my opinion
1. Shears:
- sooo convenient for traumas or any sort of code.
2. Stethoscope:
- obviously assessments, but also when inserting an NG/OG, you need ears to see if it’s in the right placement
* side note: that tape is so convenient for ekgs and if the person is hairy, taking some of this tape and scratching their skin will help the stickers stick better.
3. Perfume:
- okay, am I the only one scared of smelling bad. I’m constantly scared and dealing with bodily fluids, it’s better safe than sorry to keep a couple perfumes on hold.
4. Essential oil trick:
-again, I know I’m extra but hear me out… who wants to smell a stinky poop or vomit or anything…. Filling a little bit of saline in a nebulizer and putting a couple splashes of essential oil, throwing it on 8L will do the trick. Or even before a family will go in and see their deceased loved one, it’s just a simple thing you can do. I know it might not matter but if you know, sometime the deceased with have a bowel movement. Just make sure people around aren’t sensitive to lavender or any scents.
5. Sweater:
- I am ALWAYS freezing, so this is a no brainer. You can get sweaters anywhere: Etsy, Amazon, small shops.
6. Mini shears, light, pen & highlighter:
- this goes on my badge reel. The mini shears are sooo nice when I have to put a nicotine patch on or a lidocaine patch.
-The light can be used for looking in the pts throat, eyes, or even someone can hold it when you need more light straight cathing a female. Who knows. It’s nice to have
- the highlighter is nice for highlighting important discharge paperwork for patients to closely pay attention to. The pen & sharpie come in handy with just anything. Writing vitals, notes, having patients sign paperwork. I got mine from Etsy.
