We Got Chickens!

No, we aren’t going to eat our chickens, but we are so excited for fresh eggs! We will be naming them, feeding them delicious table scraps, and watching their shenanigans. But, I did hashtag chicken recipes just out of sheer amusement (it’s cloudy again today so I needed something to chuckle about).

Here is the story!!

I cannot even begin to tell you how happy it makes me that we finally got our chickens. After a very rough few weeks, this gave me the boost I needed.

My mood has been very strange, almost a FLAT feeling lately. I am blaming it on a combination of things, including the crazy fluctuations in the weather and the full moon. I was left feeling unmotivated and with no creativity at all!

We have had chickens several times in the past but haven’t had any for years. We decided to turn a free shed that we got from my cousin into a coop by fixing it all up. Man has it been a lot of work!

When we decided to buy chickens in the Spring, they were already sold out! We really wanted to buy chickens that were already grown and ready to lay eggs this time.

Then, we got a call from our friend who said she had been at a small animal auction and she bought 15 chickens and only wanted 7-8 of them. As we were wanting 6-7, this was perfect!!

Deb and I worked frantically on getting the inside of our chicken coop completed enough to get them settled here on our property. And, this weekend we went to pick them up. I had visions of us running after these chickens and it taking forever. But that wasn’t the case at all.

These chickens are so calm and aren't jumpy when we walk in the coop. So, here they are! We don't have their names yet, but I am sure that will be coming soon!

These chickens gave me the boost of serotonin that I have needed. Now, to spoil them and give them a happy life!!
