probably the closest i’ll get to japan now - play-pretend at the public izakaya (by hachi group) and imagine you’re right in the thick of japan’s bustling street. opt for indoor where you’re hidden from

the reality and you’ll be greeted with low traditional tables, round lighting that resembles japanese lanterns and my personal favourite, the bar counter where you’ll see hot piping oden. when we were there, we even saw japanese people dining there, i mean what more can attest to their resemblance to japan restaurants right? 🇯🇵

💃🏻 ambience: chill, cosy vibes indoor, to immerse in that, i’d say go for indoor. but as always, go for the alfresco if you prefer to have less food smells on you!

🔁 revisit? a big big yes from me! i honestly haven’t found anywhere selling oden in singapore - thanks @ohtastyfats for sharing! 🫶🏻 such a solid recommendation.

𝗢𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗢𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘁 (𝟲𝗽𝗰𝘀) | $𝟮𝟮++

the best part of oden - hot piping soup, where you’ll taste hints of sweetness from the dashi stock, and that savoury note once you let it linger a little longer in the mouth. i’d get a refill if i could. out of all the ingredients (all tasted good by the way), my favourite was definitely the daikon. such a simple ingredient, yet made so well. it was the just right softness, not too mushy yet not too hard. the best part of it all, was that in a single bite of the daikon, you’ll get the soup too as it has absorbed all of the dashi stock.

literally what the title says, it was really crispy. adequately coated with a golden batter, it was the perfect balance of crisp to tender chicken ratio. i enjoyed it the most with a dip of that creamy mayonnaise! will reorder this or get the karaage that i’ve seen people ordering.

all in all, a place i’d undoubtedly return to, with dishes i’m eyeing on already! for now the fried karaage and mentai potato but maybe more if i read more. 🤪
