Fridays are typically the most exciting day of the week. It signifies the end of the working week and the anticipation of a few days’ rest. For me, though, it’s an intense combination of anxiety and exhaustion. In my Wednesday post, you all saw a glimpse of what each hour in one of my day consists of. Well, almost every day is like that.

There are so many pros to working from home as a consultant. I get more time with my babies and my husband, and I choose when I work. I can keep up with household tasks and errands, I can save more money, and I don’t sacrifice my time during a daily commute. One of the biggest cons is that it can take a pretty big toll on my anxiety. By the end of the week, I’m ready to hibernate for two months. But there is no rest for me over the weekend. My son has extracurriculars, my daughter is still an energetic toddler, and there’s the process of preparing for the next full week.

That said, it’s easy to fall into a funk on Fridays and lose momentum. Over the years, I’ve discovered a few different ways to maintain some of that energy to finish a work week and carry me through the weekend:

☀️Changing Locations☀️

I have an entire home office set up in a separate room of our home. I’ve got my dual monitors, notes, keyboard and mouse—the works. I decorated it exactly to my liking and level of comfort needed. But it can feel a little closed in after sitting there all day. So, sometimes I work on my laptop and sit outside. It offers a literal change of scenery, some fresh air, and sunlight.

📖Reading📖

A few years ago, I learned that just a few minutes of reading in the middle of the day has the same effect on your brain and energy levels as completing a light workout or drinking a small cup of tea. So when I have about ten minutes to spare, I pull out a book from my TBR pile and focus on reading for a little while. It helps me take off the blinders that I subconsciously wear when I fall into a hyper fixated state. I’m able to do a semi-system reset and go back into my clients tasks a little more revitalized.

🪴Plant Care🪴

I have upwards of 40 plants, both indoor and outdoor. When I can’t work on one screen or don’t have time to read, I take a couple of minutes to check on my plants. I clean the leaves, water them, trim the dead leaves, and sometimes just admire them. It helps ground me and brings me back to the present. It’s a “natural” reset for me and a reminder of the hobbies that I work for when I need that reminder.
