Good evening ๐8๏ธโฃ residents,
Here are some books I found at my uni library that I find interesting. I have been searching for feminist articles and it is easily found under the โwoman discourseโ section. Before I knew of its existence I usually lurked around โworld historyโ section and itโs where I found these gems:)
1) Language and Silence by George Steiner
Actually I just want to read an essay titled โNight Wordsโ as it centered a worldwide problem: pornography. I have little interest over the other essays but I might also read โThe Hollow Miracleโ.
2) Feminist Criticism: Women as Contemporary Critics by Maggie Humm
Of course the best course of action is to read this book from start to finish but for starters I am planning to read a chapter that analyses Virginia Woolfโs literary work๐
3) ใกใใฃใจ่ฆใใ ใ or Just Looking by Rachel Bowlby
โThe spectacular development of early consumer society in Britain, France and the United States had a profound impact on constructions of femininity and masculinity, and commercial and cultural values in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Focusing on novels by Theodore Dreiser, George Gissing and Emile Zola, Just Looking, first published in 1985, addresses itself to a central paradox of the period: the perceived antithesis of the terms "commerce" and "culture" which emerged at a time which saw the actual drawing together of commercial and cultural practices.
Drawing on structural, psychoanalytic and Marxist-feminist theory, Rachel Bowlby retrieves a relatively neglected literary area for contemporary political and theoretical concerns, re-establishing the naturalist novel as a rich source for feminists, literary theorists and cultural historians.โ - Routledge

World history is not just Britain, France and US but okay maybe it was a different section ๐
