Book Review: The Teacher

Eve and her husband, Nate, both teach at the same high school although they have wildly different reputations.

Eve is the strict, mean trigonometry teacher who’s known for giving loads of homework. Nate is the handsome, kindhearted English teacher who loves poetry; Poe and particularly The Raven to be exact.

Addie is a junior in high school with quite the reputation. The kind that got a male teacher fired the year before, although Addie claims it was all a misunderstanding. Even so, this makes her an easy target of bullying particularly by Kenzie, the most beautiful and popular girl in school.

So when Eve learns that Addie is not only on her classroom roster but also her handsome husband’s, she begins to worry that Nate’s job and reputation could possibly be in danger. Adding to her worry is the fact that their own relationship isn’t exactly as it seems either.

So ensues a story of lies, truth, deception and scandal. Ending with such a twist that it’s impossible to predict.

Frieda McFadden is a master of delivering a final blow once the reader thinks the story is over. This was a quick, easy, engaging read that I finished in under 24 hours. The ending is absolutely mind blowing, unexpected and creates such an insane turn of events that it left me speechless.
