Postpartum hair loss is common due to hormonal changes, but the good news is that it’s usually temporary.
Here are some tips that worked wonders for me, to help promote healthy hair growth during my postpartum journey:
1️⃣RICE WATER
Soak 1 cup of dry rice in 1 1/2 cup water for at least 1 hour. Drain the rice in a clean bowl & use the rice water to soak your hair from roots to tip. Let’s sit for at least 30 minutes before showering.
2️⃣ROSEMARY WATER
Boil 3-4 stems of rosemary in 2 cups of water. Let the water cool then soak your hair with it from route to tip. Let’s sit for at least 30 minutes before shower.
⭐️PRO TIP: you can mix the rice & rosemary water & apply at the same time.
3️⃣CASTOR OIL
Add some drops of castor oil to your fingertips & apply to the edges of your hair while massaging. I usually do this the morning of my hair wash day and let it sit all day.
4️⃣SCALP MASSAGE
Massage your scalp with your fingertips (multitask when applying castor oil or rosemary & rice water) or use a scalp massager once a week to increase blood flow to the scalp.
5️⃣BLOW DRY
Never let your hair air dry as this will increase breakage. Always blow dry after showering & limit wedding your hair to twice a week.
6️⃣OVERNIGHT CARE
Sleep in a protective hair style like a braid or high bun & use silk scrunchies to secure it. Get yourself a silk pillow case, silk protects your hair from breaking.
7️⃣VITAMINS
Add biotin & folic acid to your daily vitamin routine, both of these help with hair growth. Add vitamin D (or make sure you’re getting enough sun exposure) because deficiency can contribute to hair loss. Continue taking your prenatal vitamin (specially if you’re breastfeeding).
