Breastfeeding - ftm vs experienced mom

Breastfeeding can be magical or a nightmare, depending on who you ask & when.

If you asked me as a first time mom, I would of told you how I was struggling, how I cried at night & felt like I was failing my baby cause my body wasn’t making enough milk to sustain him.

How I wanted to give up & switch to formula cause my nipples were in so much pain & would bleed when pumping.

But if you asked me now, with my second baby, I’d tell you how much I LOVE breastfeeding.

How I wished my first baby would have breastfed longer, how I hope my second baby continues to breastfeed until she’s at least 2, how I get sad thinking about the day I won’t breastfeed again.

Having experience obviously helped a lot the second time around. But I still feel like I failed myself the first time by not researching & asking more questions.

I was pushed to use formula at the hospital with my first baby cause he had jaundice. As a ftm I was terrified & fell into the trap.

It’s was downhill for my supply from that point. I was relying more & more on formula cause I wasn’t producing enough. But I wasn’t producing enough cause my baby was hardly latching.

It took a lot of determination to get over that hump & it was a very difficult 2 weeks, but once I cut out formula (my son was 5 weeks old) I never went back.

I’m glad I didn’t let those first weeks determine my breastfeeding experience cause my first born breastfed until he was 16 months & my 11 month old baby continues to breastfeed ❤️

if you’re an expecting mom & planning to breastfeed, please please, I urge you to do research, talk to your mom friends, ask questions, so you can be better prepared for your breastfeeding journey.
