Meet yuan yuan, a sapphire hamster born in November 2022. Believe it or not I had one before her named Chanel who passed in December 2022. 🐹
A lot of people tend to question “why keep a hamster with such a short life span?” “Aren’t they smelly” “get a big cage for what? A small one will do” well, all hamsters deserve love no matter how long they live for, they should experience a home 🏠 plus they don’t smell!! So long as the bedding is changed they have pretty much no smell at all unless you put your nose into their fur. Hamsters do need a large cage, imagine being trapped in a small space, you’ll go crazy!
So with my not so long of hamster experience, here are some things I’ve learnt📚
What do hamsters need
- 90cm x 50cm x 50cm acrylic cage (metal cages are a nono because this they’ll chew on it)
- wheel sizes (Syrian hamsters need a bigger wheel compared to dwarf hamsters)
- bedding (a variety will be fine but it has to be unscented)🛏️
- food and water(like humans, a variety of food is needed, so get different kinds)
- safe sand (should not be scented!!!)🏝️
- 5 or more enrichment (houses, sprays, flowers woods)

There’s so many things to know about hamsters and I’m just obsessed with them, both my hamsters are my whole world and I can’t see myself as the person I am today without them.
Another cool thing I do is animal communication and a lot of the things they’ve said about my hamsters are true! I did things according to the communicator and they’ve been happier!! 🐹
Though it’s sad they leave us very soon but I will be their best friend for their whole life and love them to pieces!❤️
