Mount Batur Climb Tips 🚨 + My Story 😵🥾🌋

I went to Bali in March and here are some tips & personal experience you might wanna know before you climb the mountain! 🥾🌋

Before I begin, here are some of the info ℹ️:

Tips: 🚨

1. Empty your bladder before climbing; no toilets on the mountain! 🚽

2. Pack light: portable charger, sunscreen, light snacks, light outerwear, torchlight and WATER!!!!

3. Bring a lightweight windbreaker; avoid renting on-site! It cost about $10 for the rental! 💸

4. Wear comfy shoes; avoid white ones due to mud and soil! I didn’t mind getting my shoes dirty so.. :p

5. Carry cash for drinks/snacks in case you run out of it! Buying from the locals can be pricey! 💸

6. Tip your guides - they work hard to support their families and most of them are VERYY accommodating, helpful, friendly &&&&& 🥺

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE ✋🏻

My Airbnb host assisted me in arranging a trip to Mount Batur, where we were picked up at 2 am from the Airbnb. They drove us to gather the rest of the group and have breakfast, which was included in the package. Around 4 am, we reached the starting point of the Mount Batur hike and we were given mini torchlights (it was PITCHBLACK BTW). Although I initially wore a long cropped sleeve top, the rental store convinced me to rent a windbreaker, citing the cold weather. However, just 10 minutes into the climb, I was already sweating and had to take it off, realising it was unnecessary and added weight to my bag 🤥🫠 The steep terrain made the weight of my bag burdensome throughout the hike 😵‍💫

At the beginning of the hike, some people offered bike rides to a certain point before the rocky climb began, but I declined as I wanted the complete hiking experience. Along the way, we took several breaks and enjoyed the breathtaking views 🤩

In my group, there were many experienced climbers who quickly moved ahead, while some of us who were less experienced lagged behind. Our tour guide had to help me and other people several times as we almost slipped and fell on numerous occasions. To ensure that the faster climbers weren't get lost, our main tour guide sought assistance from other guides along the way. He held my hand most of the time due to the steep and treacherous terrain.

Finally, we reached the top just in time for the sunrise, though the view was partially obscured by clouds. Fortunately, the clouds cleared as we were about to make our way down! At the summit, the tour package included food for us to enjoy as we took in the breathtaking view. Despite the cold at the summit, I didn’t wear a jacket since I was still warm from the sweat of the hike. As we make our way down, the sun had rise, and the temperature became quite warm. Hence, I don’t think it’s necessary for you to wear something bulky 🙅🏻‍♀️ Just a light weight long sleeve would be good enough!

Descending down the mountain were even more challenging than the ascent, due to the slippery conditions. I felt like it took me much longer to climb down than to climb up, although it might have been just my perception 🫣

In summary, the trek was filled with difficulties, but it is a highly rewarding experience. Tbh, I've never climbed a mountain before (except the ones in SG LOL xD), so I never knew how challenging hiking could be until Mount Batur 🥵

Despite the initial struggles, witnessing the sunrise from the peak of Mount Batur was truly magical, and the stunning views along the route added to the overall beauty of the journey. Moreover, engaging in conversations with the tour guides and fellow climbers added a special touch, making the entire adventure even more memorable and enjoyable. It was an eye-opening experience, and I'm now looking forward to more hiking adventures in the future. Cheers to conquering new heights! <3
