My Iceland Itinerary

Iceland Itinerary 🌎🌿🇮🇸

Lots of hiking and driving, but majority of this stuff is free (besides gas)

Day 1: Highlands/Thingvellir

    1.    Thingvellir National Park (1 hr from Reykjavik)

    ⁃    Try to get to Almaanagja

    ⁃    Oxararfoss Waterfall

    ⁃    Peningagja/Nikulasargja Gorges

    ⁃    Pingvallakirkja Church

    ⁃    Silfra Snorkeling between tectonic plates ($$) (pretty cool) (will have to pay for this if you want to do it/tour)

    2.    Geysir Hot Spring Area (about 50 minutes from thingvellir)

    ⁃    Strokkur Geysir (erupts every 5-7 minutes)

    3.    Gullfoss Falls (amazing waterfall) (very close to Geysir)

Another Day: South Coast

Going to seem like a lot, many of these things are right off the main road and will only take 20 minutes for each. But yes there will be a lot of driving.

Drive all the way to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon (3.5 hours, worth it!) (you’re going to be passing a lot because the glacier is the furthest away but you can stop and see all the next things listed on your way to or from the glacier)

Bring Rain Jacket

    1.    Glacier Lagoon (3.5 Hours from Reykjavik) (could go on boat around glacier, but will have to pay)

    2.    Diamond Beach (located across the street from glacier)

    3.    Seljalandafoss waterfall (most popular waterfall) (1h45m from Reykjavik)

    ⁃    if you go a little further you can see Gljufrabui Waterfall (it’s hidden away but 5 minutes from Seljalandsfoss)

    4.    Skogafoss (definitely check this one out) (15 minutes away from Seljalandsfoss above)

    5.    Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach in Vik

    ⁃    must see

    ⁃    Get out and walk all the way to the end

    ⁃    You can see the yoda cave

    6.    Kvernufoss Waterfall (got to see it) (really close to Skogafoss)

    7.    Dyrholaey & Kirkjufjara (also super close to these things)

    8.    Solheimasandur Plane Wreck (a bit of a walk to see but it’s very cool)

Next day: Blue Lagoon/Volcano Hike

    1.    Blue Lagoon 1 hr from Iceland

    2.    Stop at grindavik for lunch, fish house bar and grill

    3.    Volcano (nearby Blue lagoon) (ask locals about what nearby volcanoes are active) (highly recommend!) https://www.re.is/blog/volcanos-in-iceland/-

    ⁃    Fagradalsfjall Hike

    ⁃    have to check what volcanoes are active!! People will say and know. Bring hiking boots

Another Day: Reykjavik

Pretty Quiet Walkable City

    1.    Explore Reykjavik

    ⁃    Hallgrimskirkja

    ⁃    Shoreline/ Sun Voyager

    ⁃    Rainbow Street

    ⁃    Hljomskala Park

Another Day: Drive North

    1.    Kirkjufells Mountain (2.5 hrs)

    2.    Check out Hellnar, Arnarstapi Cliff Viewpoint

    3.    Stone Bridge

    4.    Saxholl Crater

    5.    Skardsvik Beach
