UNDERRATED TOWN IN AUSTRIA TO STAY IN

Recently, I went to Austria just to visit Hallstatt. But by some stroke of luck, I accidentally booked an accommodation in a town that’s ~40 minutes away from Hallstatt called Bad Aussee HAHAHA

Nonetheless, I was really glad for this ‘mistake’ because the views of the Austrian Alps were so much nicer in the town I stayed at. Moreover, since Hallstatt was smaller than I had expected, staying out of Hallstatt allowed me to explore Bad Aussee as well!! Which was so beautiful 🥺🥺🥺

I really do recommend staying in smaller towns like Bad Aussee (there are also similar towns that surround Hallstatt), rather than in Hallstatt itself because it is less touristy and the vibes are just immaculate (SORRY I DON’T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN IT, YOU REALLY HAVE TO SEE IT FOR YOURSELF!!)

Even though it’s a relatively residential town with a very small city centre, in Bad Aussee, there are also multiple hikes that you can take around the lakes. I did a short one around Altausseer See (not the full hike) and it was rly beautiful 😩😩🥺

To travel to Bad Aussee, I took 4 connecting buses from Salzburg airport but the views on the bus were so nice, the journey didn’t even feel like 3 hours at all!! We also passed by the place where they shot the opening scene of ‘The Sound of Music’!! Travelling back to the airport after my trip, I took the train instead which passed by the Austrian Alps and the Hallstätter Sea and that was so nice as well. So I really do recommend staying a bit out of the touristy areas to save on the accommodation and also because it’s so much more peaceful ☺️☺️
