Ryokan Experience in Japan

Experiencing an onsen (hot spring) in Japan is basically a must for anyone visiting! Many onsens are public and require separation of males and females because clothing is not allowed. Some have now started to allow customers with tattoos, but generally, onsens also do not allow tattooed customers. In those cases, or in cases where people just want a private experience, I would recommend a ryokan! This was a place where we had a whole sleeping arrangement to ourselves as well as our own private onsen. We stayed at Fuji Onsenji Yumedono , and it was the most relaxing night. We booked an executive suite for $800 USD, and the room was like a whole home complete with a couch and tv. It was snowing outside, and sitting in a steaming hot bath outside while the snow was falling was such a magical experience. In the morning, the hotel also provided a traditional Japanese breakfast that was plated perfectly. We also got perfect views of Mt. Fuji!
