Tennessee Aquarium- a few of my favorites

🎏 I remember going to the Tennessee Aquarium more than any other childhood memory of mine— and for good reason. My father is a sportsman and instilled in me the respect and care you must have for the natural world, especially if you take from it, and this aquarium does a wonderful job of that.

🍁 located in Chattanooga, Tennessee— north of Georgia on the southern side of Eastern Tennessee— this museum is downtown, overlooking the Tennessee River. Instead of focusing on only marine life, they also focus on the freshwater life, and the journey the water takes from freshwater to ocean water. Featuring two buildings— the river journey and the ocean journey— the aquariums show case freshwater river giants such as the Arapaima and saltwater beauties such as the sea turtle. The aquarium also is partnered with the iMAX theatre across the street, with educational films on wildlife. And sometimes the Polar Express.

🧺 the staff has always been perfectly friendly and helpful. This aquarium is also fully wheelchair accessible, with ramps and elevators available wherever escalators are placed. My mother has some mobility issues and has been able to walk this aquarium with her aid more times than she ever realized she could.

🌊 The aquarium does other work outside of educating the public, being a part of conservation efforts and repopulation efforts for the Tennessee River and beyond. So this isn’t a roadside hokey type deal.

if you have noise related sensory issues, I would encourage you to have earbuds/headphones available with you here! i have a lot of sound related issues and frankly, it’s not a toddlers fault if they get loud when they get excited. i normally just have my AirPods and I don’t have any noise playing, and if it does become too much, I’ll put on some white noise.
