⚠️Disclaimer⚠️

This is my opinion and I have not read the other books yet! My opinion may change by the end of the series, but this is my opinion, after my first read of the first book. This is typically not what I would read, but the covers and titles are interesting and appealing to the eye. Also, I love Twilight and many people compared it to Twilight and Harry Potter. Twilight is one of my favorites! Harry Potter (I haven’t read it only watched the movies) was another one of my favorites growing up, so I thought I’d give it a try!

Review ✍️

Writing style:

There are too many unnecessary details. There is also not enough necessary details. This book lacks imagery. I feel like it was hard for me to picture things in my head, which is a big part of why I enjoy reading. There is also a lot of “cringy” writing and phrases. There is also a lot of back and forth. Yes, this is a long book and a long series. I just feel like it is very “high school”… maybe even middle school targeted. So it is an easy read, but it lacks depth. It’s obviously a very successful book so Tracy did a great job, it’s just not what I typically read. There are definitely good twists, and things that surprised and shocked me, it just wasn’t enough to keep me hooked. It’s definitely something you can put down for a couple days. The main characters are mostly well written, I just wish I knew more about them.

Overall:

Grace is too dramatic, but also doesn’t bat an eye at people trying to kill her or the fact that she is surrounded by mythical creatures and monsters. Why is she okay with all the crazy stuff she sees, and all the insane things that happen to her? She lets Jaxon bite her and suck her blood regularly!? Is that supposed to be hot or something??? I just don’t get it. Wouldn’t that be painful? Also the loss of blood would make her feel like crap! She trusts Jaxon immediately. I get that they are supposed to be mates, but they say “I love you” after a couple days, it’s just weird and rushed. Plus they say it after some very traumatic things happen. I wouldn’t want anyone near me after everything this girl goes through, and she just gets out of bed and hangs out with Jaxon, outside, in the snow, in Alaska. I’d need a lot of therapy and a lot of sleep. It feels rushed, but also the book is so long and filled with unnecessary details that it feels like I don’t know enough. All of this happens in less than two weeks, from my understanding. It’s bazar how many things happen on her first day or two. Stuff just keeps happening and she isn’t really suspicious or worried. She questions things, but there is never a real moment where she is really trying to figure things out. It’s weird how she doesn’t question how separated everyone is more than she does. Even after she finds out what everyone is. She basically just accepts it, freaks out a little, asks a couple questions and that’s pretty much it. She asks Macy, Jaxon, Flint and her uncle very base level questions. I would be asking my uncle all about my family (especially dead parents) and all the things I need to look out for, at the school. I would want to learn more about my potential powers and how they affect my relationships with others at the school, since everyone is sooooo divided. Also Flint… she is basically okay with him attempting to kill her multiple times and keeps worrying and asking about him. If she is so obsessed with Jaxon why does she even bother with Flint, knowing how much they “hate each other”. She is okay with people (especially Jaxon and Macy) telling her what to do and making up rules with no context or reason. It’s odd… it’s yet another thing she just gets mad or annoyed about, but again she just lets it go and doesn’t really question it.

Why are none of her friends worried or checking in with her? I feel like we know absolutely nothing about her friends and family at home. I don’t even remember her best friend’s name. They just text a few times. I feel like at that point you don’t even need to mention her. It’s just another unnecessary detail/name. There are good twists and some shock throughout the book and up until the end. The end has me looking forward to the next book. The books can be read in order of release or Charm can be read next and then continue in order of release! Charm covers the 4 months in between Crave and Crush. As I had mentioned before, I feel like a lot of details are already missing, so I will be reading Charm next!

…It sounds like I just tore this book apart! This is just my opinion and not something I’d usually go for. Overall the book was good! I would probably recommend it to someone who is into this type of stuff. It’s just not a good introduction for this genre, and it’s way too long, in my opinion. It is not bad.
