So you want to start a YouTube channel?!

CONGRATS! My first tip is to START! Don’t worry about anyone else or their opinions. Just. Start. I’m just getting started but here’s some tips that are helping me on my journey…

1. The biggest tip is to BE YOURSELF. Viewers can tell when you are trying to be someone else. Having a YouTube is supposed to be a unique experience. As a creator, this is your time to be as creative as you want by your standards. It’s freedom to BE YOU! People will love that they’ve found you and can relate to you.

2. Consistency is key. I struggle in this area. But I can honestly say when I was consistently uploading and on a specific schedule, I saw growth. I suggest having content ideas and bulk filming in the beginning so that you can get in a flow of having something to upload consistently.

3. Don’t let people lie to you—-you DO NOT need tons of expensive equipment and software to start off! The way technology is, our phones can do everything and there’s so many free ways to edit and create thumbnails. Spend your money on content. Instead of buy a $1,000 camera, take that $1,000 and go shopping for content or spend it on something that will be video content worthy. If you truly are creative, you can create bomb quality content no matter what equipment you’re using. Once you’ve been doing this for a while THEN invest in higher end equipment.

4. Thumbnails and titles will get the click! Make sure your thumbnails are eye-catching because people are drawn to pictures. Create interesting and searchable titles to make people want to click and see what the video is about.

4. What type of life do you live? What are your interests? GREAT! Record it! You will have so much more fun creating content about things you talk about or do when the cameras are off because it won’t feel like work. It will be fun, and the key to being successful is having fun with it.

5. Be patient and have fun! I can attest to this. I’m still VERY new and sometimes I get very impatient. But I genuinely love creating content so I really create content for myself and the ones who can relate to me will love it just as much as I do.

Extra tips:

6. You don’t have to do a bunch of talking in your videos for it to be interesting. Many people enjoy just watching you do stuff. Add some bomb music and just record your day.

7. Don’t compare yourself! Your faves with hundreds of thousands of subscribers didn’t always have those hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Don’t let it get you down if it’s not happening as fast as you’d like!
