Tea, Culture, and Creativity: A Peranakan Workshop

If you’re looking for something fun to do with your friends besides the usual pottery or tufting workshops, this might be for you!

Last August, I hosted a private heritage house painting workshop at Straits Enclave for my family and friends, and it was such a memorable experience. We paid $78 per person, and the entire session lasted four hours. Since we had more than 10 people, we got a private session, which made it feel extra special. They also have a beading workshop if painting is not your thing!

Anyway, the workshop was a wonderful mix of fun and culture. We learned about the rich history of Singapore’s Peranakan heritage houses, and then brought that history to life through sketching and painting. One of the highlights was getting to dress up in beautiful Kebayas, which made the experience feel even more immersive. Plus, we enjoyed some delicious Peranakan snacks while chatting and creating our art.

What made it even better was how relaxed and engaging the whole session felt. The team at Straits Enclave guided us through each step, from sketching to watercolor painting, making it easy for everyone to participate, even if they weren’t familiar with art. The atmosphere was so enjoyable, and we could fully immerse ourselves in learning and having fun.

I highly recommend booking a private session like we did, especially if you can gather your loved ones for it. It’s such a unique way to spend the afternoon together, and you leave not only with memories but also with your own painted creations.
