money saving tips to move out!! 💸

tips for saving as much money as you can:

1. get a tip box you can’t open. whenever you get cash from anywhere, put it in the box and keep track in your notes how much you add each time. this will be your emergency fund.

2. have a goal to put in savings for each month, based off of what places to live you are looking at

3. try and get at least 6 months of rent saved up and some wiggle room for utilities, fees, and deposits.

4. every paycheck limit yourself to at least 10% of what you earned to spend on wants. pay for necessary bills and subscriptions you have. put the rest into savings and pretend you don’t have it.

5. categorize your savings each month into things you’ll need like furniture, car, rent, etc,…put 10% of your savings into each category. example: i have a couch category and the goal is $500 so each paycheck i put $50 into that category. anything leftover put into general savings or your most needed category.

6. each time you get paid take some of that money to buy most NEEDED things for your apartment/house like kitchen essentials, organization bins, towels, things you will use everyday, etc,…

when you finally move in to your new place you won’t need to stress about buying things and can focus on big purchases instead.

7. keep your change!! every time you find a coin or get change back, keep it!! it may not seem like a lot but it adds up. put it in a big jar and when it is full go cash it out!

8. save your gift cards!! stash away any gift cards you get to use when move out and are tight on money for food, groceries, or extra things you need for your place!

i hope these tips help!! i use ECU banking and on the app it has a savings goal feature. it has been so helpful in categorizing my savings account. i can just put money into each category when i get paid and when the goal is completed it lets you choose how to spend it!!
