Eating out in Sydney’s city centre doesn’t have to be expensive! Here are 5️⃣ places where you can eat NICE food for <$20, with some starting at $5 (no joke):

1️⃣ 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧

This is a chain of Japanese restaurants serving udon, ramen and rice bowls with multiple outlets across the city. I’ve tried the mini rice bowl with mayo karagae which was only ~$SGD5. It’s not very filling but good for if you wanna get dessert after. I’ve also tried their udon, which are around $SGD12-15. Overall, good food for the price.

2️⃣ 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐧

This was a GEM. It serves korean fried chicken and other stuff. We walked in at 6pm and the restaurant was empty, so we had our doubts. But one bite into their fried soy garlic chicken and we were SOLD. It was SO GOOD. They have all-day deals from $9.90-$16 (burgers, rice with chicken, bibimbap), but we ordered a boneless chicken set (~$SGD38) to share and tteokboki (~$SGD12). So split between 4 pax, we paid around $14 each after taxes.

3️⃣ 𝐋𝐢𝐥’ 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧’

Also another GEM. Located in Surry Hills, this quaint restaurant has deals almost every weekday, such as $5 tacos on Tuesday! Their happy hour runs daily from 4-6pm, until 10pm on Saturdays, where you can get $12 cocktails and $12 small pizzas. Their cocktails are quite sweet but look really pretty.

4️⃣ 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐬

You won’t believe me when I say that this is cheaper than Project Acai. The container sizes are about the same, except the amount of acai in the containers are much more generous here at Blessed Bowls (Bondi). I got the medium sized original acai (~$SGD13) while my friend got the small one (~$SGD11). Turns out the medium size there is the same portion as the large size at Project Acai. I was soooo full. 😳

5️⃣ 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬

I’d say this is the most average of the five, but still an affordable find. They’re known for their pancakes… but I find them a bit too thick for my liking. The bacon and rosti were also quite oily.

Hope this helps anyone who’s heading to Sydney! 🇦🇺
