i was walking around Jurong Point recently when i stumbled upon this unassuming-looking bread shop and thought their products looked super interesting! while they offer the typical items which you can find in most bread shops like pork floss buns, sausage rolls, etc., i was immediately drawn to their specialty items - mochi buns!!! 😬

Name: MuYoo+

📍 1 Jurong West Central 2, 01-K8/9 Jurong Point, Singapore 648886

🕛 9am-10pm daily

Note: they sell BBT too but wouldn’t recommend it, they have 3.3 stars on Google but mostly due to drinks and supposed bad service. mochi buns are unanimously declared delicious among reviewers!

they’re currently running a promotion on their mochi buns (3 for $8.50) and there’s 5 different flavours to choose from: sesame, matcha, peanut, biscoff and injeolmi. i deadass stood there for a good 5 min trying to decide which 3 to get before i gave up and bought all but injeolmi 🤣 anyway no regrets, bcos i got home and tried them immediately and i can safely it was the best decision i ever made 🤭

1. black sesame mochi (no. 1 best seller)

price: $3

review: y’all the black sesame paste is soooo so good!!! it’s thick and smooth, yet not too sweet. overall, the sesame paste tastes of very high quality and i was super impressed by how well it went with the mochi 🤤

2. matcha mochi (no. 2 best seller)

price: $3

review: the matcha filling was so creamy and smooth too, and again, not too sweet!! also, even though i don’t like red beans, the ones in the matcha filling were small and slightly crunchy and i could barely taste them! in fact, i initially thought they might be chocolate chips bcos it had a similar texture and a slight hint of sweetness 😬 so overall i loved this flavour too!

3. peanut mochi

price: $2.90

review: very old school tasting, reminds me of the min jiang kueh you can get from hawker centres!the texture of the filling is slightly wetter than min jiang kueh, but overall taste is very similar 😋 they also added in peanuts for extra crunch, which i thought was nice touch hehe 🥜

4. lotus biscoff mochi

price: $3

review: what can i say? if you love biscoff, you’ll love this for sure. it’s exactly how you would imagine it - the filling is rich, dense and very sweet, and the crunch of the biscoff compliments the softness of the mochi perfectly 🤤 anyway i’m drooling just writing this HAHAHAHHA

for all the mochi buns i tried, the bread and mochi were very similar to each other so i’ll review them together here. in general, the bread is very soft and fluffy, and tastes good even on its own! anyone can tell it’s good quality bread hehe 🍞

meanwhile for the mochi …. omg …. i rly have no words at how good it was LIKE look at the mochi pull!!!! trademarks of mochi that’s made to perfection 🤩 also the mochi on its own was sufficiently sweet and delicious, and the texture was rly chewy and amazing. i really think the bakery managed to nail their mochi bread to perfection 💯

overall, i think the store’s top picks are very accurate bcos my favourite one is the black sesame mochi, then the matcha, then biscoff and peanut. probably because the mochi was already sweet on its own, i felt that the black sesame one which wasn’t too sweet, complimented the mochi best because i could taste and enjoy both flavours separately there!!! but i rly rly did have the hardest time choosing between black sesame and matcha as my fav, so matcha is really a good contender too!! 😅

and as for peanut and biscoff, i’m just not the hugest fan of peanut (but i can imagine anyone who loves min jiang kueh would love it), while the biscoff filling is just so sweet that it overpowers the sweetness of the mochi. so in my opinion, black sesame and matcha are the winners for me because they balance the sweetness of the fillings perfectly with the mochi! 💯

🍋 i’m really not joking about how good these mochi buns are okay … i have an upcoming uni paper which i’ve been stressing over but when i tried the buns, i felt so ecstatic in that moment that i legitimately felt like a wave of endorphins come over me and suddenly i felt so contented and relaxed LOL. NO JOKE IT’S REALLY THAT GOOD OK … anyway if you’re ever in the west, do check it out bcos trust me, it’s a very cheap way guaranteed to help you forget about your problems, even just for a while 🤭
