hitler & stalin had coffee at this atas cafe?? 🤯

when my best friend & i were in Vienna, we were HIGHLY recommended by many friends to visit its most famous, historic cafe called Café Central! the café opened in 1876, & was a popular meeting spots for intellectuals, writers, and artists, including Sigmund Freud, Leon Trotsky, & EVEN HITLER & STALIN OK they had a cuppa coffee here … ☕️

it’s def one of the classiest & most atas cafes i’ve been to in europe - its ornate interior with high ceilings, marble columns, and chandeliers stunning details & have all been v well preserved!! the early 20th century photos & paintings hung on the walls also made it feel v much like we were dining in an art museum 🥹 also, loved how every table is assigned a personal waiter & they’re dressed super fancily in suits!!

the cafe serves a variety of Viennese pastries, cakes, and coffee specialties that are every bit as delicious as they look 🤤 but as we are broke students on a budget, we tried just two items!

1. hot chocolate + whipped cream

price: 6 euros / SGD8.64

taste: really nice & smooth chocolate, not overwhelmingly thick or jelak, i thought it was perfect for the cold weather!

2. warm chocolate cake “Viennese-style” with vanilla ice cream

price: 9 euros / SGD 12.96

taste: fricking AMAZING. the warm choc cake was essentially lava cake, & the chocolate that oozed out was soooo rich & good 😋 the vanilla ice cream on its own was alr amazing bcos the vanilla flavour was so strong & not artificial, so it paired perfectly with the warm chocolate cake!! BEST DESSERT EVER.
