SOOO about 3 months ago, just TWO days before signs ups were closing, my friend asked me to sign up for HYROX with her 😳

Before HYROX, I had not ran in like 3 years… also I don’t do CrossFit or functional training. I’m literally just a weightlifting gym girlie πŸ’…πŸ»πŸ˜ BUT I took the chance and said yes!! And honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I made in 2024.

If you’re thinking of signing up for the race in August or next year’s race, here’s my full journey and what you can expect!!

πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‹πŸ» π“π‘π€πˆππˆππ†

- I put my gym membership on pause and signed up with BFT for two months because it’s my friends gym and they offer HYROX specific training! They’re also the official partner for HYROX

- Besides HYROX training, I attended regular BFT classes to help me improve my overall strength and endurance!

- The classes really helped and the coaches were great at giving tips on how to improve my form + how to strategise for HYROX

- Did so much running!! I wasn’t the fastest and 2 months wasn’t enough to significantly improve my pace but I did drop my pace by a whole minuteeee ☺️

- Also I HATED running but ngl, starting to be okay with it 🫒

- Overall, I was training about 1-1.5hrs a day, 5-6 days a week. My body was at its fittest and leanest

πŸ€€πŸŒ―πƒπˆπ„π“

- I mainly ate as per normal! Bc I really do believe in eating in moderation (:

- The only things I changed was I leaned more towards foods with healthy fat, protein and carbs.

- I also added protein shakes into my diet again! I wrote about why I stopped drinking protein shakes previously. So far, vegan pea protein shakes, though less protein per serving, have been fine for me!

- Leading up to race day, I increased my consumption of protein and carbs.

- I also increased my water intake at least a day before the race. Made sure to drink lots plus add in electrolytes into my water to keep me hydrated!

πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ’¨ 𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 πƒπ€π˜

- Our race was at 1:30PM but we got up around 9am to get a good meal in + give ourselves enough time to register and support our friends in the earlier timings!

- There’s water coolers, bag drops, toilets + changing rooms so there’s everything you need there.

- The atmosphere there was amazing! We have done practice runs leading up to the race, but it’s not the same when you’re racing at the event itself

- There were a lot of booths around the event space including HYROX merch!

- There was also a special BFT zone for BFT members where you could get a cold compress after the event

- The race itself was actually pretty fun! I enjoyed the thrill or taking part in each exercise and pushing myself to my limits

- It was very common for people to cramp up. You could see athletes sitting down by the race tracks with medics attending to them. My race partner did cramp up in our first few laps so we took it easy and walked all the running laps.

- This was to our advantage bc we had lots of energy to complete the exercises. We ended up placing super well for wall balls 🀩

- We had a target of 1hr45mins total to complete the race. We completed in 1hr55mins which was not too bad given we walked most of the running laps. But it makes me think how much faster we could have been if we were able to run! (:

πŸ’‘πŸš¨ π“πˆππ’

- HYDRATE and CARB UP for race day! I think the reason why my partner cramped up was because she didn’t drink enough water 😒

- Tho the race is short, you can consider getting energy bars, gels, etc to fuel you mid race!

- STRATEGISE: especially if you’re taking part in relay or doubles. Plan how much each person is taking on and how much effort you want to give each station. It’s an endurance race after all!

- Bring your support system!!! We jio-ed our whole village down to watch us and it was really so nice and motivating having everyone there! A lot of them told us they felt motivated to exercise more after seeing us partake in the race (:

- I can do a post giving more strategy tips!! Lmk if you guys are interested!

πŸ€”πŸ’ π–πˆπ‹π‹ 𝐈 πƒπŽ πˆπ“ π€π†π€πˆπ?

- Honestly… YES. BUT not so soon, it’s really quite the investment and I want to give my wallet some time to breathe hahaha

- I plan to do a cost breakdown post when I can. Let me know if this is something you’re interested in!

If HYROX is something you’re considering, I hope this post helped you come to your decision (and I hope that decision is to give it a shot!). Comment below if you have any other questions and I’ll happily answer them πŸ₯°
