As much as I love what I do, there are definitely times in my career that I feel jaded. More often than not, I don’t realise I am feeling this way until much later.

I’ve compiled a list of signs I experience when I’m jaded. You can use this list to self evaluate and see if you’re feeling it too 😮‍💨

1️⃣ Revenge bedtime procrastination

- When you sacrifice sleep for leisure time bc of the lack of freedom you have in your daily schedule

- For me it was the most common case of revenge procrastination which was 🤳 DOOM SCROLLING 🤳 I would scroll for 3 hours or more sometimes and end up sleeping as late as 3AM 😬

- There’s honestly nothing relaxing about it.. it’s so mind AND soul numbing sometimes. And I have a little voice in the back of my head (which I end up ignoring) nagging me to go sleep

- As much as I “enjoy” it in the moment, I really feel the effects of sleep deprivation the next morning and even the days after that. It compromises my immune system, making me fall sick, and also worsens my mood, making the cycle repeat itself.

2️⃣ Feeling a lack of motivation to do anything

- In both professional and personal life!!

- I find myself giving the bare minimum at work, just enough to satisfy my team/the clients.. which is not a good look 😬

- Things like new projects, meetings, or anything that requires some form of effort becomes so difficult and all you wanna do is nothing!!

- In my personal life, I stop feeling motivated to work on myself or my hobbies, like going to the gym. Instead I resort to doom scrolling which just perpetuates this as I wake up tired the next day and even less motivated to go to the gym.

3️⃣ Doing anything to escape

- I used to do things like taking longer toilet or lunch breaks just to get away from work and my coworkers even if it’s for a few minutes 🥲

- Other ways of escaping can include unhealthy coping mechanisms like alcohol (be it constantly going out to drink with friends or drinking alone) and constantly going for getaways (which isn’t healthy for your wallet 😭💸) aka just trying to chase the high.
