JB Day Trip: MOUNT AUSTIN

Thinking of travelling further out in JB? Try Mount Austin! Here’s a day trip itinerary you can follow:

1. Gim Cheng Dim Sum Reataurant

⏰ 7am - 1pm (closed Wednesday)

✧ Quite reasonable selection of dim sum

✧ Listen out for the staff shouting out freshly steamed dim sum!

✧ They’ll pass you a paper at the start which, unlike dim sum restaurants in SG, you don’t have to fill up. Bring it with you when you order at the counter. The staff will fill it up!

2. Tuft.A tufting studio

📍 43-01, Jalan Permas 11/1C, Bandar Baru Permas Jaya Johor Bahru (updated address as they have recently relocated)

⏰ Availability by appointment only

💸 99 MYR and up (~30 SGD and up)

✧ You can tuft a rug, mirror, bag, etc!

✧ Go with a partner or in groups for more discounts!

✧ They also have fluid pouring

3. The FOUNDERS Cafe

📍 Tiong Nam Tebrau, 45, Jln Tiong Emas, Kawasan Perindustrian Tebrau, 81100 Johor Bahru

⏰ Open daily, 9am - 10pm

💸 ~40 MYR (~13 SGD)

✧ Good variety of bagels, mains (pasta/pizza/toast), donuts, cakes, coffee etc.

✧ Really pretty industrial chic interior

✧ They have a small shop selling plates and scented candles too!

4. Aeon Mall Tebrau City

📍Aeon Tebrau City Shopping Centre, 3, Persiaran Desa Tebrau, Taman Desa Tebrau, 81100 Johor Bahru

⏰ Open daily, 10am - 10pm

💸 Depends

✧ More than just the department store. Lots of things to do! (Even rock climbing 😳)

✧ Get all your shopping done here as well as munch on some snacks (Aunty Anne’s, Llao Llao)

5. Myeong Dong Korean BBQ Buffet

📍 58-01, Jalan Austin Height 8/7, Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru

⏰ 5pm - 11pm (closed Tuesday)

💸 39 MYR (~13 SGD)

✧ So affordable?!

✧ They also have a gas stove for soup!

✧ Buffet items are served in small batches and constantly topped up so items are fresh

6. Chun K Music Family Karaoke

📍 37, Jalan Austin Heights 8/3, Taman Mount Austin, 81100 Johor Bahru

⏰ Open daily, 11am - 3am

💸 ~28 MYR (~9.50 SGD) per pax for a 3 person room for 3 hours

✧ Staff are extremely nice and friendly

✧ No cigarette smell

✧ Room is super big for 3 pax!!

✧ Free flor drink and free bowl of snacks
