“When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the Lord was merciful.”

When I was reading this today, it stood out to me that the Lord never told Abraham that he was gonna save Lot and Abraham never pleas with the Lord for him to save Lot. Yes, Abraham intercedes for the city and goes all the way down to 10 righteous people, if there’s only 10 righteous people the Lord wasn’t gonna destroy the city. I really think at that point Abraham had to have thought “Ok there’s at least 10 there! At least! My family will be safe” Abraham never pleas with the Lord to bring Lot out before he destroys it, BUT the Lord did it. Also I don’t think He did it because Lot himself and his family were righteous, their actions speak for themselves. I think the Lord did it because of Abraham. He was merciful to them because Abraham was faithful and obeyed Him. The Lord loved Abraham so that extended mercy to his family.

Our God is a work behind the scenes God. Abraham woke up the next morning and the Bible says he hurried to see what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah.

“Abraham got up early that morning and hurried out to the place where he had stood in the Lord’s presence. He looked out across the plain toward Sodom and Gomorrah and watched as columns of smoke rose from the cities like smoke from a furnace. But God had listened to Abraham’s request and kept Lot safe, removing him from the disaster that engulfed the cities on the plain.”

We don’t see that Abraham ever asked point blank “Lord before you destroy the city save my family.” but the Lord knew that he was worried about his Family and he cared for them. So He worked behind the scenes and saved them. We also see God working behind the scenes when out of fear Abraham says to Abimelech “She’s my sister” God visits Abimelech and tells him to give Abraham his wife back. We see God working behind the scenes to keep Sarah safe and to keep Abimelech from sinning against Him.
