Homemade Apple Cider

Nothing says fall like some apple cider. This recipe is so easy and makes your house smell amazing!

10 large apples, quartered

16 cups water

3/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 tablespoon ground allspice

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

5 cinnamon sticks

1. Place apple slices in a large stockpot and add water.

2. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon sticks. Bring to a simmer over medium and cover with a lid. Continue to simmer for 2.5 hours.

3. Strain apple mixture through a fine-mesh sieve. Save solids if you plan on making applesauce, otherwise discard. Strain again using a cheesecloth.

4. Serve warm or refrigerate until cold.

You can also make this in the slow cooker by adding all ingredients and cooking on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6-8.
