Story time.
On the way to work, I wrote a teams message to Team B regarding a follow up on a previous discussion with Team A.
Point 1: I stated my intentions very clearly that there was some ideas proposed from the meeting with Team A which were duplicated with what Team B has already prepared. Note: Team B has done a similar meeting with another team on their ideas.
Point 2: With exact words to Team B: ‘Can we arrange a meeting’ I asked a member of team B.
After some back and forth, it seems that Team B felt that it was not their role to do that.
Point 3: My boss private teams me and said:
‘It is not proper to tell Team B what to do’ and that the team leader of Team B was upset.
Point 4: After I arrived at the office and had another meeting with my wider team, my boss asked me to stay behind to discuss what has happened. She was adamant that what I did was wrong. And there was just a lot of back and forth regarding this between me and her.
I was 🤏🏼 this close to sharing my screen to ask her what exactly and which exact word showed that I was telling Team B what to do.
All in all, I grew upset as the conversation went on and was genuinely getting upset and angry.
In the end, I told her I’ll just do whatever she wants to do. Just follow lor. (But in a nicer PR way) and shot a message to Team B that I will not be arranging the meeting as aligned with my boss. Thanks. (But really, no thanks)
I did not apologise.
Left my laptop at my desk and went off to cry in the toilet. I was just SOOO SSOOOOO SOOO frustrated.
It was frustrating working with people who blindly corrected me because ‘someone’ was upset. But seriously…
I can’t deal.. So… yes, I’m on the lookout for somewhere else. Wherever that may be.
