When we get overloaded by thoughts, worries or our surroundings, we get worked up, emotional or even break down. It’s so important to re-center ourselves. It’s really not worth our energy to be so affected. Of course, it is easier said than done—AS ALWAYS.

I get overwhelmed so so so easily when I have a lot on my plate and the first thought I go to is “but it’s so simple! anyone would be done by now” or my mind starts freaking out, “if this doesn’t go well, then this, then this, then this…” Let’s stop pushing ourselves to the brim and let’s allow our mind to rest. Take this chance to notice that the moment you feel overwhelmed, your mind is indicating something to you. Listen to it.

When I start to get overwhelmed, I’ll ask myself:

💭 Do I need to do it all NOW?

💭 Will this kill me if I don’t do/think about it now?

💭 What would happen if I take a break?

💭 What is this rush for?

💭 What am I striving for?

💭 If I took a breather for now, stop thinking about it, would it make a difference tomorrow?

💭 Am I feeling overwhelmed over something I have control over? Or is it out of my control?

💭 Why am I rushing or pushing myself?

These questions can help us re-center our thoughts and bring us back to what is truly important.

Take your time to answer some of these questions and reflect on your answers. I believe that at the end of the day, we are all striving TO BE HAPPY. Yet it seems like we tend to choose paths that don’t align with that, thinking if we sacrifice now, things will get better in the end. If we look at happiness as a pathway, then aren’t we walking further from our goals when we’re not in alignment with that?

I see these questions as a way to put ourselves in perspective and notice that we can always find the bright side.
