before this, i’ve never been to any concert in my life. i didn’t really get why people would drop a few hundreds on tickets when you can watch the whole performance online 🫣 but after taking my mum to four different concerts, i feel slightly different about it. (still, i can’t justify spending hundreds on one ticket)

so back in march, i was feeling pretty stressed out and stuff, and that anxiety definitely affected my mum. i felt really bad and wanted to do something concrete as a means of making up to her. she loves chinese music variety shows and can leave them on loop for hours.. so i thought of taking her to a concert. that’s when i saw posts that hacken lee’s performing at mbs! and mbs members have 10% off. yes.. i signed up for the free membership and camped for tickets. i bought the cheapest CAT 🫣 thinking we were just there to hear him sing, don’t need to be so close LOL. we really enjoyed most parts of the concert (him singing, his guest was not it for us), it felt almost magical!!! my mum really enjoyed the whole experience… and it makes my heart full seeing her happy.

richie jen and alex to’s concerts were kind of unplanned for us. i didn’t camp for their tickets. i only bought tickets to richie jen one day before the show 😅 i got it off a carouseller (please be wary before dealing, we were just super lucky with how it panned out). we managed to get CAT2 seats at $85/ticket.. absolutely insane! was it good to be closer? yes and no. yes because it felt like richie was singing directly for us HAHAHA, but no because my ear drums died a few times due to the speakers. my mum was super excited when she saw the guest!!! and having the whole auditorium sing 心太软 is just so powerful 👍🏻

alex to’s concert was a last minute thing too. i’ve been nudging my mum to see if she’s interested when the show was first announced but she kept saying she’s “ok only not super huge fan”. so i just sat on it. AND lucky i did!!! a few days before the show, he announced a buy 1 get 1 deal. YES 1 FOR 1. honestly we aren’t super huge fans cause he did take a long career break but we really liked his personality on “call me by fire 2”. so we hopped on it and bought the cheapest available ticket. the seats were okay - it’s better to have the screen as he danced q a bit so it’s easier to see the choreo. his dedication and work ethic really touched us 😭 he’s 60+ and he looks like that leh!!!! worth every buck. (i felt paiseh for paying the 1 for 1 price lol)

i wanted to get wakin chau’s ticket as my mum’s a fan of him. thankfully i managed to secure it during the pre-sale. of course, cheapest seats!! end up it wasn’t too bad of a choice as we got a good aerial view of everything that’s going on~ it’s our first indoor stadium experience and it feels A LOT more legit than mbs/rws.

all of them are better live than i expected which really adds value to the whole concert experience! to me, concerts are definitely luxuries. i’m glad that my mum and i don’t really splurge on branded goods, and we cook pretty regularly so we don’t spend much on eating out. this made budgeting for concerts easier. i always opt for the cheapest tickets also and i’m contented with that 😊

overall, i’d definitely recommend taking your parents to a concert if they enjoy music shows!! my mum’s still recounting the concert memories and she says it’s definitely a highlight for her.
