7 tips for tulips 🌷

It’s tulip season! And here’s your sign to treat yourself to a bouquet this week, because you deserve it! 💐 When you do, here are 7 tips for how to help your beautiful flowers last as long as they can:

1. Buy tulips while the buds are still closed

2. Cut the stems about 1/2 inch, diagonally

3. Remove the lower leaves - you don’t want any leaves to touch the water! This will help prevent bacteria from growing

4. Poke a small hole under the flower head (I like to use a safety pin, but anything similar size will work) - This allows for air to escape so that water can move up the stem

5. Tulips last longer in shallow water, so keep it to 3-4 inches. Top with fresh water each day

6. Add an ice cube to the water each day - tulips love cold water!

7. Add a copper penny to the vase! The older the better. This will help to prevent bacteria from growing
