I wish I knew this when I started lifting… I have been weightlifting for over three years now and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made, but if somebody could tell me things before I started, that would have been greatly appreciated…! Here are some tips:

• 💪🏼I wish I knew that your body will change: There are different phases of lifting, depending on your goals. When I started, I wanted to lose weight, but that quickly changed. My goal changed to become stronger. I wanted to do more pull-ups and lift more. Then I wanted to grow my booty and shrink my waist. Then I wanted to eat more and put on size. And then I wanted to be skinny Pilates girl. There are so many phases of lifting you will go through, but the most important thing to remember is that it is a LIFESTYLE. It’s not a trend. You will go through ups and downs, but overall it is your health you are trying to take care of. Take it day by day!!

•🍗I wish I knew that you have to eat a ton of protein daily: when I started, I didn’t realize how much protein you actually needed. I aimed for 80 g a day to start, but that wasn’t even close enough. You should be eating 1 g/ pound of your body weight in protein every day. That seems like a lot, but it will help you reach your goals, a lot faster, and maintain your peak composition.

•🔥I wish I knew that leanest was not necessarily my healthiest: the first picture of me is when I felt my most confident after lifting for about a year. my body fat percentage was extremely low, my booty was looking good and I was super confident in a swimsuit! I honestly loved how I felt. BUT you don’t see that I had not been getting my period in months. My hair was falling out. I was doing excessive cardio. This was NOT HEALTHY. Again, remember that this is a lifestyle you will be doing this for the rest of your life. Enjoy it. Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself.
